LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill.—Mr. Ratburn, the teacher at Lakewood Elementary School, has come up with a creative assignment for his students. He wants them to write a story to perform in a show for Elwood City residents. Everyone thinks it will be fun except for Arthur, who’s having self-doubts: Can he come up a story that isn’t too boring?

Adapted from Marc Brown’s popular series of “Arthur” novels by playwright John Maclay, with music and lyrics by Brett Ryback, the new “Arthur & Friends Make a Musical” is an adorable addition to shows especially created for children 6 to 10 years old.

Arthur’s Problem

Arthur’s friends imagine what he believes are fascinating tales about dinosaurs and extraterrestrials. All Arthur can think up with is a story about his puppy, Pal, but he doesn’t think that’s interesting enough.
