An English bulldog nicknamed Madame Eyebrows for the two expressionistic spots above her eyes may look like the saddest pup in the canine world, but her owners say that she is a very happy dog. Nonetheless, her humorous social media presence has won her an army of fans.

“Normally, we call her Thea,” owner Janina, who lives with her husband and two dogs in northern Germany, told The Epoch Times. They have had the now 4-year-old British bulldog since she was a puppy.

Madame Eyebrows was born with these unmissable eyebrow marks. “A few days after her birth, it was already possible to see,” Janina said.

Apart from the family, whenever Madame Eyebrows was outside, people would be surprised to see her special marks. Prompted by their reactions, Janina created an Instagram account, which was later followed by a TikTok account.

Since then, the giant eyebrowed puppy has had an immense following of more than 131,000 followers.

In 2018, magazines gave Madame Eyebrows “the saddest looking dog” title, or even called her a grumpy dog.

On social media, Janina and her husband exemplify their pup’s apparent immunity to looking happy in funny photos and videos. In one video, Madame Eyebrows sits alone with a plush toy, and the caption reads, “the authorities have closed the door to the bedroom.”
In another, she stares mournfully at a plate of two iced donuts covered in mini marshmallows. “When you eat sweets only on Sunday, and you realize that it’s Saturday,” reads the caption.

According to psychologists at the University of Portsmouth, England, dogs’ eyebrow anatomy has evolved through centuries of domestication to make their faces, and emotions, more readable to people, reports National Geographic. In Madame Eyebrows’s case, the comically placed eyebrow spots are just irresistible.

Yet, despite the bulldog’s perennial sad face, her owners claim she is lovely, funny, and even something of a guard dog.

“She loves us very much, and she protects us, too,” Janina told The Epoch Times. Explaining her personality further, she added: “She is a little bit scared when something is loud or new; then, she runs away.”

Madame’s original canine companion, a Labrador named Luna, passed away in April 2021 at nearly 14 years of age. Since then, Janina and her husband have adopted a puppy named Willy.

Madame, who “loves to cuddle very much,” also loves to run fast around the garden and play with her new brother. Clearly, it seems like a puppy can’t be judged by just its eyebrows.
