Epoch Watchlist: Recommended Viewing for Feb. 6–12

This week, we feature two animated tales: one of a diminutive athlete bucking the odds and, the other, a classic tale of one man’s first encounters with his own kind.

‘GOAT’

Will Harris (Caleb McLaughlin) is a small‐statured goat who lands a break at playing professional roarball, a wildly physical animal sport that makes basketball look tame. However, the other animal players aren’t thrilled to share the court with him, so Will has to prove he belongs.

The voice cast keeps things bouncy, and the world feels so over-the-top it’s hard to look away. Overall, despite some predictable beats, it’s clever enough, has some good humor, and carries positive messages about sticking up for yourself and others.

Tarzan (Tony Goldwyn) grows up with the gorilla Kala (Glenn Close) after a shipwreck leaves him alone in the African jungle. His life shifts when explorer Jane Porter (Minnie Driver) arrives and opens his eyes to the wider world. As hunter Clayton (Brian Blessed) threatens his adopted family, Tarzan must choose where he truly belongs.
