‘Dead Man’s Wire’: Real-Life Loony Tunes

“Dead Man’s Wire” seems to be more concerned with creating a noir-ish 1970s pastiche than making any kind of substantial statement.

Back when director Gus Van Sant was up-and-coming and buzzworthy in the early 1990s, the only movie of his I really liked was “Drugstore Cowboy” (1989), although “To Die For” (1995) was also rather fun. Generally though, the material that tends to get Van Sant excited seem to be the ones that utilize straight actors playing against their sexual orientation.
