Preserving and performing music from the past wasn’t common practice in earlier centuries. For the most part, audiences wanted to hear the latest compositions from musical masters, which encouraged composers to recycle rather than revive their works.

One person who deserves a lot of credit for preserving and popularizing musical masterpieces from earlier centuries is Alessandro Parisotti. This arranger compiled the three-volume song collection “Arie Antiche” (“Ancient Songs”).
