Being a cynic at heart I’d inked up my pen with vitriol ready to sign off The Sound of Brazilian Football as another marketing scheme to capitalise on the World Cup. Unfortunately for me I had to eat my words as this compilation is very good. The album captures the intensity and celebration Brazilian football fans are known for, and features such legends as Jorge Ben and Elis Regina.

If you’re into Brazilian carnival rhythms and swinging your hips to Batucada beats then this album probably won’t leave your stereo until the autumn rains. And look out for a track by the giant of the beautiful game himself—turns out football wasn’t Pelé’s only talent!
