The National Health and Family Planning Commission of China told the World Health Organization (WHO) of five new cases of human infection with avian influenza (H7N9) virus.

Two were located in Shanghai City, and both died within about a week of becoming ill.

The other three cases were in Hangzhou City, Jiaxing City, and Ningbo City (all in Zhejiang Province).

The source of the infection is not yet known. Luckily, however, there is no evidence of human-to-human transmission.

WHO is not currently recommending any travel or trade restrictions.
