One of the most frequent questions we get when we suggest the Paleo Diet is “what about breakfast?” When you decide to go on a grain-free eating plan, many of the foods you commonly think of as breakfast foods get the boot. Cereal? Nope. Muffins? Pastries? Donuts? All eliminated. YOGURT? OATMEAL? Sorry. I know. It sounds hard to handle at first, but I promise, once you get the hang of it you won’t even believe you used to put chocolate croissants into your body first thing in the morning.

Here are 5 delicious paleo-friendly breakfast ideas that will give you energy and keep you full (without the sugar crash)!

Eggs

Eggs are probably the most obvious grain-free breakfast. There are so many things you can do with eggs! I like to hard boil a bunch of them and keep them in the fridge for when I’m running out of the house and need something on the go. Another awesome egg idea is these paleo egg muffins — add your veggies of choice, and you’ve got the perfect breakfast!

Leftovers from Lunch or Dinner

If you’re used to having sweet things for breakfast, warm up to the idea that your lunch or dinner foods can be just as great of a choice. Make some extra so you have leftovers, and enjoy! Check out these paleo dishes that can be eaten anytime of day.

Smoothies

Smoothies are my favorite breakfast food, and you can definitely make them more paleo by eliminating dairy and sweeteners and not using too much fruit. Try this ginger hemp green smoothie (sweetened only with coconut water), or check out this “Smoothie Making 101“ list to create your own.

Bulletproof Coffee

Before you start to tell me that coffee isn’t a breakfast, listen closely. Bulletproof coffee is made with grass-fed butter and MCT oil (or coconut oil) and can be filling enough to give you sustained energy until lunch! Don’t knock it until you try it. Here’s the recipe.

Paleo Pancakes

If after all that, you still want your pancakes for breakfast, try making a paleo favorite — pancakes! The basic recipe is to blend 2 eggs with 1 banana and make them in a pan with some coconut oil. Try that out, or make these coconut flour pancakes!
