A few years ago, a United States-based non-profit group uncovered a shocking brain-injury-inducing machine invented by Chinese researchers in a medical university in Chongqing that could be used on humans to render them brain dead but keep other organs healthy. Three years later, the same medical university released a study on using live pigs as crash test dummies, sparking outrage.

Crash Test Dummies

The research, which was conducted by Institute for Traffic Medicine (ITM), China’s Third Military Medical University, now known as the Army Military University (AMU) and affiliated with Daping Hospital, had used 15 young pigs, which were aged between 70 and 80 days old, as crash dummies to test the potential impact of automobile collisions in child seats. Seven pigs died instantly while others sustained several degrees of injury.
MailOnline reported that the pigs—first deprived of food and water for several hours—were strapped in different kinds of seatbelts and mounted on a sled before being slammed into a wall at high-speed testing of up to 30 miles per hour. Researchers said that the pigs were also given an anesthetic to reduce “excitement and stress.”
The scientists explained in their paper, which was published in the International Journal of Crashworthiness, that the study was to “mimic children of six years old” due to the young pigs’ anatomic structure being “similar” to that of human children, Mail Online reported.

Of the 15 animals that were used for testing, the detected injuries were “brasion, contusion, laceration, bleeding, and fracture.” The study also reported that all animals sustained multi-injuries.

The scientists told The Independent that they had followed U.S. guidelines, adding that their study was approved by an ethics committee.

However, animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) said the experiment was brutal and disagreed with the researchers’ justification.

“Letting intelligent and sensitive animals like pigs crash into walls in high-speed tests in China is simply cruel,” the spokesperson of PETA, Anne Meinert, told the German newspaper Bild, the Metro reported. “It leads to broken bones, internal bruising, lacerations and horrible deaths.”
Zachary Toliver of PETA wrote that the pigs’ anatomy is “very different from that of humans, so the data obtained from these horrific animal experiments aren’t applicable to human car-crash victims.”

“Car companies figured out years ago that these kind of experiments are worthless and tell us nothing about a human experience in a car crash,” he further added.

The animal rights group has also written to the ITM to urge them to “stop using animals for barbaric and deadly car crash test,” adding that General Motors Company had stopped using animals for crash tests some 25 years ago after protests from PETA. They also added that soon after, all major car manufacturers focused on “modern non-animal testing methods.”

However, such a shocking and gruesome experiment is not the first research that the AMU has conducted.
In 2016, a non-profit group, the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG), released a report of the live organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners that is occurring in China.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient mind-body discipline based on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. After the number of people practicing it skyrocketed within five years from its introduction to the public in 1992, the communist regime banned it in July 1999. Numerous practitioners were being arrested, imprisoned, and tortured.

In recent years, media outlets around the world have reported that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been harvesting organs from prisoners of conscience, including Tibetans, Uyghurs, select House Christians, and Falun Gong practitioners.

In the 2016 report on organ harvesting, WOIPFG documented that the former police chief of Chongqing, Wang Lijun, had invented a brain-injury-inducing machine that could cause brain death but help preserve organs’ conditions. A year later in October 2017, documentary filmmakers of “Investigative Report Seven” from South Korean media TV Chosun traveled to AMU to investigate.

The crew met one of the researchers who invented the machine with Wang and was able to gain access to the Chongqing military hospital and research laboratory supervised by Wang.

In the laboratory, they saw blueprints hanging on the wall for a machine that would inflict brain stem injuries and cause brain death, which was similar to the machine patented under Wang’s name and identified as “Primary brain stem injury impacting machine.” The machine has a big ball that could cause a severe impact on the brain stem and over to the brain once it is released.

TV Chosun also mentioned that “it takes a second to cause brain death.”

The crew was told that the brain-death machine, which was developed and upgraded to the third generation, would “cause brain death but the other organs are not damaged.”

To find out how the machine works, the filmmakers made a prototype and asked Lee Seungwon, a surgeon and president of the International Association for Ethical Organ Transplants (IAEOT), for his advice.

“It’s just to extract human organs intact, I am quite sure. Why else cause brain death to humans?” Lee said.

While only two morbid experiments were currently exposed, is there more research that the world might not be aware of?
