In a follow-up message, NYPD wrote: “Yesterday’s afternoon temps hovered in the mid-80s & on an 85° day, it only takes 10 mins for the inside of a car to reach a deadly 102°.”

They also informed netizens that it was prohibited to leave an animal unattended in a car under such dangerous conditions. Fortunately, the pup was rescued and was being cared for.

A month later, NYPD shared a sweet update that one of the pup’s rescuers, Officer Maharaj, had adopted him. They also thanked the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA)  for helping take care of the pup.

The tweet went viral, amassing over 2,000 likes and many comments from netizens expressing gratitude to the officer for giving the pup a second chance at life.

“Officer Maharaj is an angel amongst us,” wrote one of them. “Thank you for saving and adopting this fur kid!”

While another chimed in: “This is the happiest ending possible for this sweet dog!”
