PERTH, Australia—Shen Yun Performing Arts enchanted the audience at The Regal Theatre for the matinee performance on Saturday, May 3. In the audience was Tony Jonikis, clinical psychologist working for health department and also an International ice skating judge, came to see Shen Yun with his wife and his sister.

“I really enjoyed it,” Mr. Jonikis said.

Based is up-state New York Shen Yun has classical Chinese dance at its heart but also incorporates folk and ethnic dance, along with a state-of-the-art digital backdrop and an orchestra blending Chinese and Western instruments gives a complete theatrical experience.

“Dance is one part of human culture. Classical Chinese dance is grounded in 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture, and is a dance art form built upon a deep foundation of traditional aesthetics. Classical Chinese dance is rich with expressive power,” the website explains.

Mr. Jonikis appreciated all the nuances and how each detail in the dance contributed to the overall complete experience, the synchronicity.

“It’s great, the unison is excellent and the ability to build up from small movements into a real sense of force and expression is very good,” Mr. Jonikis said.

“I liked the meditation dance that was really quite involving and interesting,” he said.

As well as ancient legends, Shen Yun portrays contemporary tales of courage. Mr. Jonikis referred to one piece where practitioners of Falun Dafa—a traditional meditation practice—demonstrate fortitude and steadfast faith when faced with persecution.

Summing up his Shen Yun experience, he said, “This has been an exciting experience; I’m glad I came.”

Mr. Jonikis works as a clinical psychologist for the Western Australian Health Department and is an international ice skating judge and referee, he has judicated in many state, Australian and international competitions over 30 years. In 2009, he was named an Official of the Year in the Department of Sport and Recreation awards.
