NEW YORK—Painter Don Perley praised the aesthetic presentation in Shen Yun Performing Arts that he saw on Sunday, April 28, at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater.
“The colors changed to tell different stories; the colors were an important component of the different stories. When it went to different dynasties they each had their colors that identified them,” he said. “It was all quite brilliant and larger than life, I think.”
Mr. Perley has painted for almost 38 years and is currently based in Connecticut.
Shen Yun formed in 2006 to revive the divinely-inspired, nearly decimated, 5,000 years of Chinese culture, and draws from the vast cultural lexicon to present different myths, legends, and ethnicities.
“A Shen Yun performance features the world’s foremost classically trained dancers, a unique orchestra blending East and West, and dazzling animated backdrops—together creating one spectacular performance,” explains the company’s website.
The performance was immensely positive for Mr. Perley.
“I thought it was great story telling. The emotions were really overwhelming,” he said.
“You see the colors of the costumes of course, and the choreography and combination, to tell these stories. These stories are very inspirational and uplifting, and so the experience as a whole was very elevating.”
