DENVER—“Absolutely beautiful! Vibrant colors!” said Carrie Dunn after seeing the New York based Shen Yun Performing Arts Company at the Buell Theatre in Denver, with her husband on Feb. 18.

“It’s like eye candy when you’re watching,” said Mrs. Dunn who studied classical ballet for seven years. “They’re all beautiful.”

Mr. Dunn, director and co-founder of Kresher Capital LLC loved Shen Yun. “We loved the dancing,” he said.

“Chinese dance is at the heart of what Shen Yun does. Known for its incredible flips and spins, and its gentle elegance, it is one of the most rigorous and expressive art forms in the world,” according to Shen Yun’s website.

As a person who studied dance for years, Mrs. Dunn was particularly impressed with the “very precision-oriented” movements. “They’re all exactly the same. It’s very difficult to get that number of people to do the same thing at the exact same time, so I appreciate that,” she said.

Mrs. Dunn said she did not “know a lot about” classical Chinese dance “but it looks beautiful.”

There were many aspects of the dance that she appreciated. “The feet are beautiful,” she said. “If you watch just the feet, it’s very light and toes are pointed when they need to be pointed, and it’s just beautiful. Very, very precise.”

Mr. Dunn said, “I just continue to look at how they move their heads … and the way their feet make them float, I don’t see that very often … Very, very different.”

Shen Yun depicts live on stage 5,000 years of divine culture through classical Chinese dance, folk and ethnic dance and story-based dance, thus giving the audience a variety of experiences.

Mr. Dunn liked the story-based dances, citing When Play Turns to Panic as particularly enchanting because of the humor and the story line.

“When Play Turns to Panic” depicts an ancient academy schoolyard where an aspiring scholar gets a rude awakening after nodding off in class, according to the program.

Mrs. Dunn said Shen Yun was “very fast-paced and entertaining.” She appreciated the beautiful colors, and the variety in the pieces.

They both agreed they would come to see Shen Yun every year.
