INDIANAPOLIS—“A spectacular production,” is how Ken Sonner described Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company’s dance and music performance at Clowes Memorial Hall of Butler University, on the afternoon of Jan. 17.

“Everything is just first rate. It is magnificent. I would recommend it to anyone,” said Mr. Sonner at intermission. He is a retired Executive Vice President of Corporate Banking at Union Planters Bank.

Shen Yun takes the audience through a journey of 5,000 years of divinely-inspired civilization with storytelling done by Classical and ethnic dance, originally composed orchestral music using Western and Eastern instruments, and state-of-the-art animated digital backdrops.

“We thoroughly enjoyed the scenery, and the dancers,” said Mr. Sooner.

What was equally impressive to him was the overall story being told through the unfolding of myths, legends, and past and current historical events in China.

“Oh, the story is magnificent; I love the history of what I am seeing and today’s situation in China,” he said.

One of the mini-dance dramas, The Power of Compassion takes place in contemporary China, were persons practicing the spiritual meditation disciple known as Falun Gong, are currently being persecuted in China for holding onto their beliefs in the principles of Truth, Compassion, Tolerance.

“I’m glad to be more aware of that,” Mr. Sonner said. “We knew there were some restrictions, but the story tells it all.

Mr. Sonner concludes, “It’s just been fantastic, 5,000 years of history. The theme is the progression through the 5,000 years, the history, and the magic of China.”
