OTTAWA, Canada—Craig O’Neill, head of the Corey Craig Group and owner of dozens of businesses, wanted to see Shen Yun Performing Arts to learn more about Chinese history.

“It was really good,” said Mr. O'Neill at the National Arts Centre on the afternoon of March 18. “I don’t know all the history of China and all that, but it was neat to hear all the different regions, the sounds of them.”

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company. It aims to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization through the arts.
Along with classical Chinese dance, Shen Yun’s programs include folk and ethnic dances from China’s 50-some ethnic minority groups, stories, and legends from five millennia, all accompanied by an orchestra blending East and West, and a dynamic animated backdrop.

“I liked all the dancing. I liked the Asian instruments that add a lot to it for sure. I have a musical background, so it’s nice to hear that flavour in it. Of course, I wasn’t familiar with any of it until seeing it,” said Mr. O’Neill, who attended the matinee with Catherine Morin.

“Oh, I loved it. I loved that they explained everything. So you know exactly what it is and what the history is. It’s very nice,” said Ms. Morin. “So many cultural experiences.”

“It was a good entertainment and learning at the same,” said Mr. O'Neill.
