OSLO, Norway—Shen Yun Performance Arts 2009 World Tour appeared at Oslo’s renowned theater Konserthus for two packed shows held on March 14.
On several occasions, the audience enthusiastically responded with spontaneous applause. When the Dance of the Snow-capped Mountains, a dance depicting a traditional Tibetan dance, the audience applauded as male dancers stomped, stepped, and lept through the air.
“This is fantastic,” said Anne-lise, a senior ballerina who saw the evening performance of Shen Yun.
Being a former professional dancer, Anne-lise is an authority on the subject of Western dance. She was impressed by the skills of the Shen Yun artists. Among other things, she especially noted the movements of dancers, their costumes as well as the unique techniques mastered by the dancers. Regarding male dancers, Anne-lise suggested professional dancers in the West could emulate the techniques of classical Chinese dances.
Anne-lise is also fascinated by the superlative body control the foot movements in classical Chinese dance.
“It is interesting to see that your footwork starting with the heels, contrary to the classical ballet which is starting with the toes,” said Anne-lise.
“You concentrate so much on the costumes—you are using the costumes to give us a fantastic experience,” she added.
Anne-lise has never seen Chinese dance of such high quality before and was very pleased to have the opportunity to do so. Shen Yun Performance Arts portrays classical Chinese dance and music of the highest caliber. Tragically, free expression of traditional culture in China is forbidden by the Chinese Communist Party.
After its performance in Oslo, the Shen Yun 2009 World Tour heads for their next venue in the Stockholm for the second time.
