WASHINGTON—Shen Yun “is a divine performance about divinity and our nature that lives beyond,” said Dave Wallace, Maryland’s Republican senatorial candidate. “As we go through life we must always consider the fact that we must be instruments of good in this world,” he said.
Mr. Wallace had just seen Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Kennedy Center on Feb. 17 and was inspired to reflect on man’s relationship with the divine.
“This brings joy to your heart because you realize that god is in control,” Mr. Wallace said, and the program reminds us that, first of all, we are all spiritual beings.
Through classical Chinese dance, through projected images of China’s countryside, imperial courts, and celestial spheres, through joining the West and East together in an orchestra that contains instruments from each, Shen Yun brings beauty of sight and sound to the stage.

Mr. Wallace believes that “every single person [on] this globe has human dignity,” and that we should aim to elevate that human spirit.
Several of the story-based dances Shen Yun presents depict the persecution in China today of Falun Gong. The spiritual path guides its followers to practice the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance in their daily lives.
Mr. Wallace explained, Falun Gong is persecuted strictly because of faith, which is an atrocity the world must know about.
“There is a genocide, … This must be pronounced around the world and there must be ramifications because we cannot allow human dignity to be destroyed, where we trade with the communist government and allow them to act with impunity,” he said.
Mr. Wallace believes that we should not trade with evil while at the same time allowing it to to destroy our own national infrastructure. He asks, “If the Chinese Communist Party is willing to do this to their own people, what are they willing to do to us?”
Through this persecution of Falun Gong, the people of China are seeing the evil nature of the communist regime, and because of this, many people are quitting the communist party there, Mr. Wallace said. The Chinese will not abide by a regime “that perpetrates evil against its own people.”
“Everything that this performance reflected is man’s beauty in the eyes of god,” Mr. Wallace said. “We are all creatures made by god.”
