Cafe des Chats in Paris is the city’s first cat cafe—a place to get coffee and “purr therapy,” said cafe manager Margaux Gandelon.

A dozen or so rescued cats live in the cafe, and Parisian cat-lovers unable to keep cats in their cramped living spaces can get a feline fix.

Gandelon noted the therapeutic value of a cat’s company: “Purring produces vibrations which heal, which relieve arthritis and rheumatism, which lower your blood pressure and your heartbeat.”
