MILWAUKEE—Besides having a feeling of peace, beauty, and wonder after seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts on Feb. 20, Dr. Christine Anderson found the overall theme of the performance to be one that depicts peace, nobility, honor, and freedom.

Dr. Anderson is an ophthalmologist specializing in children’s eye abnormalities. She attended the matinee performance at the Milwaukee Theatre with a friend, Louis Tripi.

According to the company’s website, “A Shen Yun performance features the world’s foremost classically trained dancers, a unique orchestra blending East and West, and dazzling animated backdrops—together creating one spectacular performance.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revitalize traditional Chinese culture through Chinese classical dance and music.

Dr. Anderson was surprised by the really wonderful understanding she gained from Shen Yun’s mission. It was a new-found connection to Chinese culture itself, as well as an understanding of the depth of beauty Chinese culture has that had the biggest impact on her.

She found all the unique subtleties to be enriching to the overall performance. “It was absolutely beautiful.”

Both Dr. Anderson and Mr. Tripi thought is was really cool the way the female dancers appear as though they are floating or gliding across the stage during certain dances.

Dr. Anderson commented that what impressed her the most were the beautiful costumes and the gorgeous music. “There is just such a peace to the whole thing,” she said.

“It is truly magical to watch, it really is. Now to watch how they perform, it’s like butterflies on stage. It really is incredible. And it does bring a sense of peace,” Mr. Tripi said.

Dr. Anderson said she'd definitely share her experience with her friends.

Mr. Tripi added, “I would definitely recommend it to everybody, ... because it brings back some of that history into the present.”
