San Antonio celebrates its tricentennial this year. Among the many festivities, a summer-long program, Olé, San Antonio, highlights the city’s connection to Spain, with musicians, artists, and chefs from Spain collaborating with their San Antonio counterparts.
The program is hosted by Pearl, a mixed-use, cultural and culinary destination north of downtown San Antonio. Here are a few highlights:
On Aug. 4, Grammy-nominated singer Concha Buika will perform with local favorite all-female mariachi group Las Coronelas.
On Sept. 16, Mariachi Lab will showcase mariachi talent from San Antonio, including a mini-parade with cabezudos—large, ornate papier-mâché heads commonly seen in parades in Spain—and a performance by acclaimed flamenco guitarist Luis Gallo from Madrid.

The king and queen of Spain recently visited the city June 16 to 18, and attended the opening of art exhibit “Spain: 500 Years of Spanish Painting From the Museums of Madrid,” at the San Antonio Museum of Art. It includes artwork that has never been seen before in the U.S. and runs through Sept. 16.
