TAOYUAN, Taiwan—Ms. Huang Yuemei has lived in Vienna, Austria for about 10 years, and she is currently the conductor of the Longtan Bel Canto choir as well as a teacher of voice and piano.
Invited by her friends and classmates of a calligraphy class, Ms. Huang attended Shen Yun Performing Art’s final performance at the Taoyuan County Performance Center on the afternoon of March 31, 2013. She praised the performance after experiencing it.
“This is a comprehensive world-class performance of dance, vocal solos, and music,” she said.
“The synchronization among music, high-tech backdrops, stage setting and dances is seamless,“ she added. ”The graceful dancing and the glamorous colors—coupled with the exquisite technical skills—made the show a high-level performance. I was really amazed by the superb performance.”
“For 5,000 years divine culture flourished in the land of China. Humanity’s treasure was nearly lost, but through breathtaking music and dance, Shen Yun is bringing back this glorious culture,” reads Shen Yun’s website.
“In addition, each set of the costumes is very impressive,“ she said. ”So far, I’ve never seen any performance company with such splendid costumes.”
As a vocal music teacher, Ms. Huang spoke highly of Shen Yun’s vocal solos. “The three vocalists are international-class musicians. Their singing techniques are impeccable and flawless,“ she said. ”Their perfect performances can be compared to the world’s top three tenors or sopranos.”
The resounding voices of Shen Yun’s bel canto soloists are an integral part of each performance. According to its website, “Their impassioned songs give voice to hopes that have shaped Chinese culture for centuries.”
“In Taiwan, the audience has few opportunities to see such a magnificent performance,“ she added. ”In particular, the live orchestra is great, as it blends the essence of Eastern and Western instruments. Its performance was indeed gorgeous, and its timbre was excellent.”
Shen Yun’s orchestra blends two of the world’s greatest classical music traditions. Through its use of Western orchestral instrumentation and ancient Chinese instruments like the erhu and pipa, Shen Yun’s audiences are left with a truly unprecedented experience.
Knowing that Shen Yun cannot perform in mainland China, Ms Huang said she feels sorry for such unfortunate circumstances. “It is regrettable that such wonderful performances cannot be performed there.”
Regardless of the situation, Ms. Huang said she feels that Shen Yun has so very much to offer to the world. “We should learn from Shen Yun’s overall teamwork, and its high spirits in daily training, as well as its performance on stage,” she concluded.
“This is something very important, and we should be learning from it.”
