EDMONTON, Alberta—Darla and Michael Smith attended Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium on March 14.

New York-based Shen Yun’s mission is to revive the traditional Chinese culture and to show how China was before communism.

The performance impressed the Smiths, who own their own movie theatre. “It was so amazing,” Mrs. Smith said. “The artistic, the colours, the dancers, the music. I play an alto sax, so the music was phenomenal. The strings. It was phenomenal.”
Mrs. Smith rated other aspects highly, too. “I love the colours. The choreography was excellent. The music, it was all around. It was probably one of the better shows I’ve ever seen. We don’t get out very much. So this was a real treat. We really enjoyed it.”

Mr. Smith made note of the orchestra. “The live orchestra was perfect. And when the other folks were doing their solos, they were perfectly still, very respectful. I liked that. It was good.”

Mrs. Smith loved the backdrop. “It was amazing. Owning a movie theatre, it was phenomenal to see the screen come alive.”

The stories were new to Mr. Smith. “Never heard the stories before but it was easy to follow along and the magazine really helped. I thought they brought it to life all around. It’s really good. I really enjoyed it. I haven’t seen anything like that before.”

Mrs. Smith noted one story about a mother and child in particular. “It touched my heart. It was very emotional. It was very touching. It was beautiful.”

Seeing a performance about the Creator coming to save the world touched Mr. Smith. “I think we need that more now in our world than ever before. So it was good to see it on screen and there’s nothing, nothing like a live performance.”

To the performers, Mr. Smith had positive comments. “Excellent job, lot of hard work. You can see it’s really paid off. A lot of the choreography in the dancing was was flawless.”

“I think it was good to see,” said Mr. Smith, commenting on Shen Yun’s mission of showing traditional Chinese culture before communism. “It was nice to see something in an artistic impression that was brought to the stage ... it was very nice. I really enjoyed myself.”

Mr. Smith said, “Come on out and see this. It’s a show that you got to see as very entertaining, musical. There’s never a dull moment. It goes from one performance to the next. It was really well done. You‘ll laugh, you’ll cry.”
