BALTIMORE—Mr. Tom Hill, managing director at Morgan Stanley, attended the Shen Yun Performing Arts on January 19.

He said that “The show was beautiful. I’ve never seen anything like it. It was just beautiful.”

The Shen Yun was performed in Baltimore’s Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric, an ideal venue to bring a show of Chinese cultural characteristic to the American public. The venue has presented shows of different flavor for close to 120 years.

According to the Shen Yun website, “A performance by Shen Yun is a presentation of traditional Chinese culture as it once was: a study in grace, wisdom, and the virtues distilled from the five millennia of Chinese civilization.”

Mr. Hill said, “My sense is that this is what China would be like if it was free. The freedom of everybody on the stage was terrific.”

Although he is not an expert on dance, he said that the performance “was very good, and I was very impressed with it. We’re grateful that it’s here in our community in Baltimore.”

The Shen Yun left its audience with the impression that “good triumphed in the end, and I like that,” he said.

There was so much to see and hear, from the one-of-a-kind orchestra that blends Eastern and Western music, stories gleaned from China’s 5,000 year-old history, classical Chinese dance, songs and so much more.

Therefore, Mr. Hill concluded, “I think the beauty of the dancers, the color that the show exhibited, just the overall freedoms of the performance. I thought it was terrific.”

His parting words were, “Thank you for coming, and bringing that part of the Chinese culture that I guess can’t exist in mainland China today to our community here in Baltimore. We appreciate it.”
