SAN FRANCISCO—“Everyone should see it,” said international business owner Harold Reed after seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco, Jan. 11.

Mr. Reed had attended the performance with his wife and the couple said they had enjoyed it and wanted to recommend the performance to their friends.

“It’s excellent,” Mr. Reed said.

New York-based Shen Yun revives 5,000 years of Chinese civilization through the performing arts. With the universal languages of music and dance, brilliant costumes, and an animated backdrop, the divinely inspired culture is brought to life on stage. Established in 2006, Shen Yun tours around the globe and has since become an international phenomenon.

The couple had enjoyed the new experience watching traditional Chinese dance, and Mr. Reed had been impressed with the athleticism of the dancers and energy of the male dancers.

Classical Chinese dance includes hundreds of unique postures and movements, making it a vast and independent system. The form also includes many difficult jumping, flipping, and tumbling techniques—which is where sports like gymnastics and acrobatics originated from.

“Very impressive, the dancers are just exquisite,” Mr. Reed said.
