SEATTLE—Kevin Higman, a company’s chief operating officer, and his wife attended Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Marion Oliver McCaw Hall on March 31.
“I really enjoy seeing all the different ethnic dances,“ Mr. Higman said. ”Just the wide variety of culture in China, all the different regions and the different cultures.”
Based in New York, Shen Yun was founded in 2006 by leading Chinese artists and quickly became the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company. Shen Yun’s mission is to revive traditional Chinese culture.“I think it’s very important that we don’t lose [our culture], don’t lose our heritage,” he said. “I guess, for me, it’s just a reminder that we should think about our pasts and places where we’ve been, and things that have been successful, and not get rid of them, not abandon them.”
Mr. Higman said he sensed the energy of Shen Yun. “The movement and the music together is all very well put together.”
He said he recommends Shen Yun to friends. “It’s dynamic. There’s a lot of different pieces and changes. There’s some good story in it. So I think it’s just very well put together.”
The live orchestra impressed him. “We went down and looked into the orchestra because it’s easy to forget it’s not recorded music, that it’s live right there.”
