After a loving husband and father experienced the miracle of childbirth firsthand, he felt compelled to write a letter of gratitude to the woman who bore his first biological child. The now-viral Facebook post has won the praises of social media users nationwide.
William Trice Battle, from Dallas, Texas, stood by his wife, Lauren Battle, throughout her pregnancy and labor. “I didn’t get to experience it with Kannon, my stepson,” Battle, 31, told Bored Panda, “and so I knew I wanted to experience it [this time].”

“I wanted to be the rock for her during one of the scariest moments of her life,” Battle said. “Little did I know that it would end up being one of the scariest moments of my own.”

Upon the birth of his baby son, Roman Creed, on Nov. 18, 2019, Battle penned an earnest social media post intended for the woman who single-handedly nurtured his baby for nine months.

“The pain was so intense, so overwhelming, that even I felt it,” he wrote on Facebook. “Everyone in the room felt it. Yet she pulled through.”

“Her pain was gruesome,” the father continued. “Her struggle seemed almost unbearable. I found myself gritting my teeth when she did, tensing my entire body when her contractions hit, and shedding tears along with her.”

Battle shared that accompanying Lauren through her labor had allowed him to fully appreciate the sacrifices that she had made to bring their son into the world. Describing himself as “merely a passenger,” Battle credited his wife for giving her labor “every ounce of life and energy she had in her,” and then a little bit more.

Battle was inspired to write his heartfelt social media post on the evening of Roman’s birth. He celebrated finally getting to love and hold the baby that Lauren sacrificed her body and self for, calling his infant son a miracle.

“Babies are absolute miracles,” he wrote. “But to me, the greater miracle is his mother. My wife is the real miracle.”

“The chaos had settled,” the Dallas dad told Bored Panda, “and my wife Lauren was nursing our beautiful boy [...] I’ve never seen such love, such strength, from anyone like that before.”

Battle said his love and respect for his wife grew exponentially, and that the words in his social media post simply overflowed from his heart and onto the screen.

“The post simply came from a desire to pay homage to the most incredible woman I know, and I’m so thankful that my words have touched so many lives because of it,” he said.

Battle’s Facebook post was not the only expression of heartfelt gratitude that Battle shared upon the birth of his baby son. The doting husband and father also penned a touching account of his experience of welcoming his son into the world for Love What Matters.

“For 9 months,” Battle wrote, “your mother was all you knew [...] Before I could do anything for you, your mother gave everything for you. Your mother is the reason I hold you today.”

“So, I’ll hold you tight,” Battle continued, “but I’ll hold your mother tighter. My love for you grows the more I understand the measure of a mother’s love.”

Battle hopes that other men will consider his takeaway message, an invitation to “dive” into their partner’s world.

“Try everything you can to appreciate the sacrifices they make for your children,” he told Bored Panda.

“Compassion and empathy are necessary if you are to truly love your partner,” Battle continued. “So be present, be engaged, and be grateful.”
