A motorist has miraculously managed to survive a shocking collision in which a steel guardrail impaled the car from front to back.

The incident that occurred on Dec. 26 involved a single vehicle traveling on I-384 in Manchester, Connecticut. The driver, who remains anonymous, lost control of the car and struck the guardrail, which then separated and impaled the vehicle, said Battalion Chief Craig Webb of Manchester Fire Rescue EMS.

“The steel guard rail penetrated the vehicle in the right front, passed completely through the passenger compartment, between both occupied seats, and exited the left rear, extending approximately 20 ft out of the vehicle,” Manchester Fire Rescue explained on Instagram.

Photos and videos show the immense damage caused at the entry and exit points.

The driver was the only occupant and, incredibly, survived with non-life-threatening injuries. The individual was transported to a local hospital by fire department paramedics to be treated for “minor injuries.”

Webb said that mechanical extrication was not required to remove the driver from the car, but fire crews had to cut the guardrail at each end to remove the vehicle from the interstate.

Shocked netizens flooded the comments section on Manchester Fire Rescue EMS’s Facebook page, including some witnesses to the incident.

“We drove by it yesterday; definitely was a miracle that he walked away and was unharmed,” wrote one. “We saw it in person and it was CRAZY! Happy to hear everyone is ok!” wrote another.

“Driver has a guardian angel,” wrote a third netizen.
