STOCKHOLM, Sweden—Mr. Jansson, former chief of the Swedish national platform for music, was lyrical in his remarks about the music played by the Shen Yun Orchestra. He spoke after the March 18 show in Stockholm.

He has more than 30 years experience as an orchestra conductor, as well as long experience as director of several music companies, including the Stockholm Concert Hall. Mr. Jansson was very impressed that Shen Yun brought a live orchestra with the show.

“I am very impressed that they brought an orchestra. It would be possible to have it on tape.

“And I was sitting behind the conductor, she was very skillful. As a conductor myself, I know. So we are very happy for this,” said Mr. Jansson. He saw the show last year as well.

He has done music research at the university. He has worked with musicians and conducted orchestras throughout Sweden. The Shen Yun orchestra successfully combines Western and classical Chinese instruments, according to Mr. Jansson.

“It’s interesting to have this mixture of Western instruments and classical Chinese. I was a bit skeptical the first time I saw it, but I think it is very nice. It works well. And then the music sounds still pretty Western, with the harmonies and major and minor,” said Mr. Jansson, seeming pleased.

Although he is formally retired, Mr. Janssons’ knowledge and competency in music is still sought after. He is on the board member of several prestigious music associations.

As a final remark on the Shen Yun orchestra, he said, “I experience it very strongly—I think it works really well.”
