During the thick of winter, when the early days of January brought stillness and silence, my husband and I did something spontaneous and out of the ordinary. Feeling the house was just a little too quiet, we decided to bring home a puppy one weekend while out running errands.

After a few weeks of sleep training, he would rest for six to eight hours at a time—a miracle when one is navigating through those dog days of puppyhood.
