Nikka From the Barrel, a cult-favorite blended whisky first introduced in Japan in 1986, has arrived in the United States. The blend comes from Nikka Japanese Whisky, founded in 1934 by the father of Japanese whisky, Masataka Taketsuru. It won Best International Blend and a Gold Medal at the 2015 International Spirits Challenge.
The rich, full-flavored expression is a blend of more than 100 different batches of malt and grain whisky from Nikka’s distilleries, aged for three to six months in an array of used Bourbon barrels, sherry butts, and hogsheads. The aging time, as well as a high proof of 51.4 percent ABV, help merge the wide variety of flavors.
