When a distraught homeless woman barged into a family home without knocking, begging for water, she scared the children, whose father ran to their defense. But rather than act with aggression, he chose kindness.

Alex and Kent Bloomfield were at home with their children when a disoriented homeless woman came staggering onto their front porch and made a beeline for the door saying, “I need water!” She was recorded on their doorbell camera.

The woman was “confused,” the Bloomfields said, according to Viralhog, and “barged into our home” before slamming the door behind her.

Ms. Bloomfield was sitting on the couch with the eldest daughter. The youngest daughter was standing right by the door, and she was the first person the homeless woman targeted in her search for water.

“I didn’t know her intentions and couldn’t get to my daughter in time, so I screamed to hopefully stop her from coming any further into my house,” Ms. Bloomfield said.

The homeless woman stopped in her tracks, but by now Mr. Bloomfield had heard his family’s cries and ran to their defense. He ushered the stranger back out the door and followed her onto the porch.

In doorbell camera footage, the protective dad can be heard telling the homeless woman, “Don’t walk into our home,” while the woman apologizes, still begging for water.

Mr. Bloomfield keeps his voice steady and low, giving the stranger her boundaries. Finally, when the woman is calmer, he fetches her a bottle of water.

Thanks to Mr. Bloomfield’s composure, his family remained safe and nobody got hurt.

“I posted this video to show how compassionate my husband was toward this woman,” said Ms. Bloomfield. “The outcome could have been so different, but, because of my husband’s kindness, he was able to de-escalate the situation and we were then able to get her help.”

The powerful scene at the Bloomfields’ home has amassed over 12 million views on social media, and thousands of responses.

“I think this man handled this situation like a perfect gentleman,” wrote one netizen on Facebook. “Kindness and compassion go a long way,” wrote another. “Thank you kind sir for protecting your family, and also helping a person in need.”
