Even by the wild standards of the music industry, few performers have lived a more idiosyncratic life than Steven Demetre Georgiou. He gained fame as a benign late-1960s teen pop star under the name Cat Stevens before reinventing himself as an era-defining 1970s singer-songwriter.
After generating millions of record sales within the span of a few years, Stevens embraced the Muslim faith, changed his name to Yusuf Islam, and walked away from the music industry. Years passed before he would inch his way back to performing and recording.
