It’s a sweet-as-pie story: two sisters from the Midwest find their own ways through life—art school for one, finance for the other—and end up as roommates in the capital of hip, Brooklyn, and open up their successful pie shop. That’s Four & Twenty Blackbirds.

The sisters have now written their own pie book, giving tips on making the crust, rolling the dough, and weaving beautiful lattices.

The recipes will appeal to bakers with a seasonal sensibility, from a springtime wild ginger strawberry pie, to a fall salted caramel pie. The latter, their signature pie, was named one of the top 20 pies in America by Travel & Leisure. Some recipes are unusual as well: think muskmelon chiffon pie or pear anise pie. Pie recipes come with suggested pairings of a crust, including animal cracker, all-butter, and saltine versions.

“The Four & Twenty Blackbirds Pie Book” is a must for pie-lovers.
