MELBOURNE, Australia—With a background trained in Western classical dance, Eunice Adams loved Shen Yun Performing Arts presentation at the Arts Centre’s State Theatre on Sunday March 30.

“Beautiful, absolutely beautiful,” she said.

“I loved the precision, all the costumes and the colouring, the lighting, and it’s just absolutely beautiful.”

“Classical Chinese dance has a long history of thousands of years, passed down continuously within the imperial palace and ancient Chinese theater and opera,” says the Shen Yun website.

“Soaking up profound wisdom from every era and dynasty, it has become a complete system of dance embodying traditional aesthetic principles with its unique dance movements, rhythms, and inner meaning.”

“I think it’s fabulous, I love it. It’s amazing, the gymnastics and everything in the dance style ... so I appreciate a lot of the movements.”

Mrs. Adams said the style of the dance and the characters worked beautifully.

“I just loved the precision and the lines, the costumes and the dancing, just beautiful.”

“In less than ten minutes each, Shen Yun dances recount ancient myths, bygone heroes, or celestial paradises,” according to the website.

“Whether set in the past or in contemporary China, every dance embodies traditional Chinese values. Ideals of loyalty, filial piety, and veneration for the divine are cherished and celebrated. Heroes are extolled for their compassion and tolerance as much as their courage or determination when facing adversity.”

“I think it works really well because—the classical dance and the [digital backdrops]. I think it works really very well,” Mrs. Adams said.

As a former classical dancer, now a teacher, Mrs. Adams thought it important to see all different styles of dance.

“And I think this is excellent because they do lots of character dancing so I think it’s excellent to come and see a show like this.”

She will tell others to see Shen Yun because of the variety of “singing, dancing, colour, movement—just beautiful, lovely.”
