Urfa biber from Turkey, gingko vinegar from Korea, fish sauce from Vietnam, and roasted baby apricot kernels from Afghanistan—such are among the 2,000-plus items available at Snuk Foods, a newly-launched online bazaar of global ingredients and specialty foods.
Founded by entrepreneurs Betsy Fox and Scott Cantini, the website curates high quality and ethically-sourced products from around the world, with a focus on cuisines along the ancient trade routes of the Silk Road.
“Our inspiration really came out of a need in the marketplace,” Fox said. “As avid home cooks and world travelers, we’ve all had to go to four or five stores to get all the ingredients to recreate a ‘global’ dish, particularly foods from the Middle East and South Asia. We wanted a single destination with guaranteed quality for food from regions that people are curious about.”
Snuk draws upon the inventories of a range of global producers and sourcing partners, including famed New York specialty market Kalustyan’s. Top products are then compiled into a catalog that encompasses hard-to-find grains and flours, chutneys and curry pastes, and hundreds of different herbs and spices. Items ship to customers directly from the company’s warehouse.
Accessibility is key: “I think everyone has had that experience of going into a store in Chinatown, seeing so many products with labels you can’t read, and not knowing the quality of what’s in the bottle. We’ve taken the guesswork out of that for you,” Fox added.
The site’s selection is being constantly updated. Shipping is available to all addresses in the contiguous United States. SnukFoods.com
