A little boy in the United Kingdom was devastated when his beloved puppy went missing from home. After news of the missing dog spread, a celebrity decided to offer a cash reward to bring the wee terrier back to the boy.

In December 2017, Edward Latter, from Marden, Kent, was heartbroken when he learned that his 9-month-old dog, Morse, had been stolen after he escaped from home.

The 2-year-old’s parents, Richard and Amanda, tried searching for Morse for 24 hours before a woman called to tell them that Morse had been dognapped and taken away in a van.

“At first we really tried to play it down to Edward, almost ignoring the fact that Morse was not in the house,” Richard told Eastnews Press Agency.

“We said he was on an adventure and would be back soon. But of course he started asking ‘where is Morse?’ ‘Has he gone to the beach?’ It’s heartbreaking to hear him say it.”

As it was nearing Christmas, Edward decided to write to Father Christmas to ask for his help.

With help from Richard, Edward’s sad but hopeful letter traveled faster than a flying sleigh ... on social media.

“Dear Father Christmas, I just want one present for Christmas this year, my dog Morse back,” the letter read.

“I’ve been a very good boy all year. Thank you, Edward aged two and three quarters”

Later, when words of Morse’s disappearance spread, X Factor boss Simon Cowell decided to step in to help.

Cowell contacted Richard to tell him he would be offering a 10,000 pound (approx. US$13,177) reward for Morse to be returned.

The celebrity had wanted to keep the donation anonymous, but Richard convinced him to reveal his identity to increase the chances of having the pup returned.

“It is incredibly kind of him and just absolutely superb,” Richard told Kent Online.

“I just cannot get my head round it, I really can’t. It is very generous of him to go public and put himself in the spotlight. Simon is a dog owner himself and he was just really touched.”

Still, nobody came forward.

Then one day in January, a couple spotted Morse going walkabout on the street. It’s believed the lost terrier had escaped his captors, who had prepared it to be sold on.

The couple brought Morse back for a bath before bringing him to the vet to get a microchip reading—that’s when they knew this was indeed the missing Morse, and alerted the dog’s family.

Needless to say, Edward was overjoyed.

“He was absolutely over the moon,” said Richard, the Eastnews Press Agency reported.

“We have got Morse back,” Edward said. “I can’t believe it...

“It’s too late for Christmas but this is the best present ever.”

What a nice gesture from Simon Cowell to offer a reward just to have Morse returned to Edward!
