‘You are completely transported to another world’

“It was a high-class performance for the artists. It was harmonious, it was beautiful, the instruments were truly fantastic, and what was created on a musical level to accompany the dances was really great. … [The emcees] explained that it was created especially for the show. I am a musician, so I particularly enjoyed that part that accompanied the dance.”

“I liked the combination of the Western and Oriental instruments, especially what they explained to us about the traditional instruments. … [The] artist who played the traditional instrument, the erhu—it was really good, it was touching.”

“You are completely transported to another world, like when reading Chinese literature about the dynasties. We feel completely transported into another world, especially with the piano. I found it great because [the music] changed the atmosphere completely.”

***

“I also liked the costumes—very beautiful costumes—and also the effects they did with the backdrops and characters going out of the screen.”

“It’s good to remind us that [spirituality] is part of [the Chinese] culture, it’s in the history. There are great principles like [those of Lao Zu]. Then there is another scene about persecution in China. … It is very interesting to see it in this show. There is the side that is somewhat like a fairy tale but also truthful stories [about contemporary events in China].”
