CALGARY, Alberta—Mr. Shuffler, a seismic data consultant who ran his own business for seventeen years, was among the thrilled audience members of Calgary’s matinee showing of the Shen Yun Performing Arts 2009 World Tour.
“I thought it was spectacular. The music! And the singing! The visuals were stunning and the dancing was fantastic. I just loved the dancing. It was worth the time and the money.”
Mr. Shuffler’s two young daughters were by his side. His daughter, Meredith, said, “It was really nice. I liked all the costumes.” Madelyn, his other daughter said, “I thought it was really great because of all of the music.”
Mr. Shuffler explained that he did not attend previous years’ shows, because they were all evening performances and he wanted to bring his daughters with him.” I said put on an afternoon performance, and we will get tickets. And we did”

“The artists of [Shen Yun] Performing Arts begin with a technical mastery of classical Chinese dance or classical music, and, by way of traditional performing techniques bring to life on stage China’s pious and virtuous divinely-inspired classical culture along with the universal ideals that shaped it, such as goodness, beauty, harmony, and self-improvement.
“Through these, the performer seeks to carry forward the arts of humankind’s traditional culture. In presenting an experience that’s altogether pure and beautiful, we aim to capture the substance and spirit of pre-modern China’s classical culture. We would like to think that the show will provide you with not only an artistic feast, but also a greater sense of meaning in life.”
Shen Yun will stage three shows in Calgary before carrying on to Edmonton and Regina.
