Travel magazine Travel & Leisure released the winners of its annual Best Awards on Thursday, which allows its readers to vote on the best locations and transportation for travel, including hotels, cities, airlines, and cruises. Virgin America ranked number one for Best Domestic Airline, and to celebrate, the airline threw a one-day sale on plane tickets.
This is the third year in a row for which Virgin has won for the category. Fares range from US$33 to US$113. The low prices apply to one-way flights from August 25 to October 6 on any day of the week. The sale ends at midnight PDT July 8 (3 a.m. EDT). The news created such a demand that the Virgin site’s server crashed at the time of writing, but has since been brought back online.
Readers voted for Bangkok, Thailand as the world’s Best City, while the world’s Best Hotel resides in India. The Galapagos Islands regained its 2008 Best Island position from Bali, who took the title in 2009. Crystal Cruises is the world’s Best Large-Ship Cruise Line, while Singapore Airlines is Best International Airline, both of which retained their number one ranking every year since the poll began in 1996, according to Travel & Leisure’s press release.
In the Continental US and Canada region, New York City was voted Best City, while Best Island went to Mount Desert Island in Maine.
