EDINBURGH, Scotland—Ms. Davidson directs a financial business. Her daughter Anne, a university student, has studied ballet for 15 years.
Anne was touched by Shen Yun Performing Arts: “I was in tears at the end with the one about the father,” she said of the dance Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution. In this narrative dance, a peaceful community is grieved when the father of a young girl is persecuted for practicing Falun Dafa. Despite the tragedy, the story gives a message of hope—good is ultimately rewarded.
Ms. Davidson said she was “very much aware that it’s an expatriates’ performance. These messages came across.” The company is based in New York. Many of the artists are of Chinese descent, born in the West.
Ms. Davidson said she “loved the spectacle, loved the color. It was uplifting, exciting, and absolutely beautiful.”
Anne was intrigued by the Chinese cultural expression: “It was really graceful, really flowing, dynamic. ...”
She appreciated the athleticism of the dancers, who performed extraordinary spins and leaps.
