Upland Opens on Park Avenue South

Chef Justin Smillie is bringing a bit of his southern Californian origins to New York with his new casual, elegant restaurant, Upland. Stephen Starr is a partner in the project.

The California-inspired menu includes Mushroom Salad with seared robiola, tatsoi, chicories & burnt shallot vinaigrette; housemade pizza with stracciatella, pear, pecan pesto, and arugula; Porcelet with Jimmy Nardello peppers, charred onions, and persimmon; and 2 Minute Tuna with dandelion, bread crumbs, pickled onions, and anchovy vinaigrette.

“Justin is an immense talent, and I’m thrilled to be able to collaborate with him at Upland,” said Starr. “I’ve been a fan of his for years, and think his food is easily among the most satisfying in the city,” Starr said in a press release.
