TAINAN, Taiwan—Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company performed at the Culture Center in Tainan on the evening of April 13. After two curtain calls, the audience stood and gave a long ovation, seeming reluctant to leave.
Two among the lingering audience were the wife of the president of Khin Bedding Company and her daughter, marketing assistant manager, Ke Jiawen. Ms. Ke, who saw Shen Yun for the first time, said she appreciated the projected backdrops. She said: “All the backgrounds were perfectly coordinated with the dances, such as the fairies descending from the backdrops to enter the stage. Its overall effect was very appealing. The scene of the tsunami was also vivid and stunning.”
Ms. Ke praised the dance called Plum Blossom. “I loved the Plum Blossom. At the moment of blossoming, when the flowers came into full bloom, it was so fantastic and unforgettable.”
As a professional in the field of bedding and fabrics, Ms. Ke was sensitive to color. She said, “After seeing Shen Yun, I was amazed that the colors of the Chinese traditional costumes could be so novel.”
As for the orchestra, Ms. Ke thought it was superb. She said she especially felt it was significant to have music performed by both Eastern and Western instruments.
Ms. Ke spoke of the expressiveness of the dances, “Without any words, the dances portrayed the stories well only through the dance itself, such as the terracotta warriors and Monkey King, which were very attractive.” She was referring to Recalling the Great Qin, and The Monkey King Outwits Pigsy.
In the end, Ms. Ke appreciated Shen Yun presenting the Chinese traditional culture, saying “If traditional culture was not passed on to the next generation, they would not know such a great and wonderful culture when they grow up.”
