A routine traffic stop unveiled a shocking image for one West Virginia state trooper.
When trooper B.R. Wood with the Princeton detachment arrested a woman for Driving Under the Influence on Aug. 23, he found a baby in the back seat in a less-than-hygienic state.
“We made an arrest for DUI,” Wood told the Bluefield Daily Telegraph. “The 1-year-old baby boy was in the backseat covered in vomit. The vehicle was disabled, so we brought the baby boy back to the detachment.”
Trooper D.C. Graham was photographed as he cleaned the child up in a sink filled with soapsuds. The child, who was apparently sick, can be seen smiling as Graham cheerfully stares at him.
Another photograph shows the baby wrapped in a red towel, clutching a brown stuffed animal as he lays on Graham’s chest.
The photos have since since gone viral.
“He was the best little baby. He had just started to nod off when CPS (Child Protective Services) arrived,” Wood said.
The baby was placed in the care of a legal guardian and is under the supervision of the state, according to Wood.
The driver of the vehicle faces charges of DUI with a minor.
