To Kill A Mockingbird has been a regular part the curriculum for a large portion of American students for decades. The story of the book teaches a classic cultural lesson.

The author of the book, Harper Lee, won a Pulitzer Prize for her work. She drafted characters that have been remembered by generations of American readers. The book was made into a movie two years after the book was released, in classic black and white.

The novel outlines the struggle of an African American man who is accused of raping a white girl. The story takes place in Alabama during the Great Depression. The small town minds of the characters in the book are broadened by the work of attorney Atticus Finch, who endeavors to save the man accused of raping the young girl from wrongful imprisonment.

Harper Lee based much of the story on her childhood experiences. Lee was born in 1926 and grew up in Monroeville, Alabama. To Kill A Mockingbird was not only a bestseller when it was released in 1960, but was much later voted Best Novel of the Century by the Library Journal in 1999.

The 50th anniversary edition can be purchased for less than $30.00 and is available in book stores across the nation as well as on the internet.
