Tim Ten Yen’s self proclaimed Karaoke Pop stirs mixed feelings with this reviewer. To be knowingly amateurish can be charming, and it is difficult not to admire his DIY ethic when it is executed as well as on album opener ‘Girl Number One’. But equally it is impossible to take an album seriously when it features songs like ‘The Bear and The Fox’ and ‘Radio Nowhere’, which are lyrically so banal and pointless you wonder why they were included at all. Ten Yen can clearly write songs, and freed from the confines of Karaoke Pop he could have something more concrete to offer. As it is this album grates too often to be recommended.
