SCHENECTADY, New York—Wednesday night’s performance of Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady captivated audience members.

Roberta Esposito, a freelance theater director who has worked with The Glove Theatre, saw the show for the first time on Wednesday and enjoyed what she saw.

“It is a lot to take in I don’t know where to look first because the costumes are beautiful,” said Ms. Esposito. “The music and the styles and the dancing—it is just very different from anything I have ever seen.”

Shen Yun Performing arts is, via the arts, leading the revival of traditional Chinese culture, much of which has been systematically destroyed under decades of communist rule in China. Shen Yen features dance and operatic singing in the Bel Canto style, as well as an orchestra comprised of both classical Western and Eastern instruments.

“It is beautiful, it really is,” said Ms. Esposito.

Kathy Benosso, who was also at Wednesday’s show and works as a teachers aide for special education, called Shen Yun “phenomenal.”

New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts has three touring companies that perform simultaneously around the world. For dates in Detroit and other tour stops, visit ShenYunPerformingArts.org
