Botswana has long been known as the home of luxury safaris in Africa – this is not surprising. This country is an absolute haven for wildlife, not least because a few years ago the Botswana government dedicated its entire army to anti-poaching. The wildlife here is thriving and thanks to forward thinking many years ago, overcrowding of safari camps and lodges has not been allowed to happen. This means that when you are on your luxury safari in Botswana you will not see another soul, but will see some of the most amazing wildlife sights. Here are our top three luxury Botswana safari combinations:

Duba Plains + Vumbura Plains

You will start at Duba Plains, which is set in the far North of the Okavango Delta and offers one of the best chances in Africa of seeing lions hunt buffalo – yes you heard that correctly. People flock to this tiny luxury safari camp with the hopes of seeing two of Africa’s giants fight it out for survival. The vast concession which Duba sits in is completely private and has abundant natural game as well as a diversity of landscapes. You will then combine this with the ultra chic and luxurious Vumbura Plains, which is in the heart of the Okavango Delta. The game viewing on this itinerary couldn’t be better.

Zarafa + San Camp

Many people only go to Botswana to visit the Okavango Delta which is such a shame, right there on your doorstep lies the Kalahari Desert and the Makgadikgadi Pans – these vast areas hold many other delights such as the ancient San bushmen, meerkats and black maned Kalahari lions. Zarafa is an ultra luxurious camp which offers prime exclusive game viewing in a vast private concession in the Northern Okavango Delta. San Camp offers white Moroccan style desert tents with views of the pans, and access to quads, walks with the San bushmen and the chance to meet habituated meerkats. The contrast of these two camps is incredible.
