Some call it “twee,” some “indiepop”–it’s basically what “indie” actually meant before it became attached to every Tom, Dick and Harry who could write a song and play a guitar.

In following the indiepop formula The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have succeeded with flying colours.

Each track on this album is a perfectly crafted exemplar of what indiepop means; ultra melodic, lyrically earnest and wistful, it won’t be everyone’s idea of fun but I’d defy anyone with an ear for Spector through to Belle and Sebastian to not find something instantly delightful in “Stay Alive” or “Young Adult Friction.”
