Connected up to the hilt and with admirable industry back stories, it was always likely that The Big Pink wouldn’t have to strive too hard for a record deal or for the gushing column inches which have duly arrived since their inception. A powerful and at times mesmeric live act, the band have only patchily translated their promise onto this debut album. The humongous singles ‘Velvet’ and ‘Dominos’ still sound great but ultimately across the duration of the album the cacophonous industrogaze fails to quite live up to the band’s hypnotic best. Seek out the singles and see them live and you’ll know what all the fuss is about.
