An 18-year-old girl who said that she found a baby on her front-porch admitted to the police that she is actually the mother of the baby.
The girl, from Schertz, Texas, told her parents that she found the baby around 4 p.m., and her parents then told the police.
Her parents had no idea the girl was pregnant.
“Without having seen her previously I don’t know the extent to which her pregnancy showed or didn’t show,” a police officer told Channel 8 news.
The baby was taken to a hospital, where it’s in good health. The mother has not been charged with a crime.
“Based on the circumstances, and her being a teenager, we just feel it’s in the best interest not to pursue charges,” the officer said.
The employee of a Child Advocates of San Antonio said that there were plenty of options for mothers in Texas who don’t want their child.
“In Texas, a child that is under 60 days old can be taken by a parent to an EMS facility, to a child welfare agency and to a hospital to be dropped off,” Rick Cooke said.
